Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

Mr John Harrison has been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital since August 2007. He specialises in all upper limb surgery and was specifically appointed to develop the hand and wrist service. He covers general trauma when on-call.

He did his higher surgical training in Manchester. His main interests lie in the treatment of sports injuries, and in soft tissue reconstructive surgery in the upper limb. He undertook Fellowships at Wrightington Hospital in hand and wrist surgery, and at Royal Preston Hospital in shoulder surgery. He has an MSc in orthopaedic engineering from Cardiff University and has recently been elected a Member of the Faculty of Sports and Exercise Medicine.

Mr Harrison has published and presented work both nationally and internationally, and is interested in basic science research. This work has directly led to the development of replacement joints for the elbow and the distal radio-ulnar joint.

He is a medicolegal expert in personal injury and produces reports within 5 working days of seeing the client. He does not undertake clinical negligence work. All medical reports are indexed and well researched. Terms of Engagement must be signed prior to appointment.

He has a partner and 2 children, and enjoys competing in long distance events such as mountain marathons and kayak races.
